What you need to know about the 2020 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale
If you have been a Smart Southern Style reader for a while, you know that I love shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale every year. If you aren’t familiar with the sale, I am sharing all the details below. This year things will be a little bit different, so even if you have shopped the sale in previous years, I wanted to share what you can expect this year.
WHAT IS THE NORDSTROM ANNIVERSARY SALE?
Nordstrom holds the Anniversary Sale, or the “NSale”, every summer. This sale features brand new fall and winter items that are marked down 35% to 40% on average. Lots of well known brands are featured such as Tory Burch, Madewell, Vince Camuto and so many more. Nordstrom offers its credit card holders the opportunity to shop prior to everyone else during Early Access. (I will share more on the sale dates below.) Note: I would never advise you to open a credit card to shop a sale, as I am generally not a fan of store credit cards. You should do what’s best for your financial situation. I personally made an exception for the Nordstrom card because of this sale, as I stock up on items for my entire family each year. But there are still plenty of great items available after Early Access when you can shop without a Nordstrom card!
WHEN IS THE 2020 NORDSTROM ANNIVERSARY SALE?
The sale is a little later than in years past. Usually it is in mid-July, but this year Early Access for the sale starts on August 4. This year Nordstrom is making all of the items included in the sale available to preview now, which is something they haven’t done in the past. This ONLINE PREVIEW replaces the printed catalog that used to be distributed. Card holders can begin shopping on different days depending on their “status”. Status is based on the amount of money a card holder spends during the year at Nordstrom, and you can find out your status by logging into to your Nordstrom account. The sale opens to everyone on August 19.
HOW DO I SHOP THE NORDSTROM ANNIVERSARY SALE?
The sale items are available in stores and on NORDSTROM’S WEBSITE. However, I would advise that you shop online for several reasons. First, many of the items included in the sale are online only, so you cannot find them in stores. Second, the stores get really crowded during the sale so store inventory is depleted quickly. And finally, some stores may not have dressing rooms open due to Covid, so you may not be able to try on clothes in the store. I will go in the store the first day of Early Access (August 4) to purchase my favorite items that I can share with all of you quickly. If I did not need items quickly to share photos, sizing and fit details on the blog, I would do all my shopping from the comfort of my couch in my PJs!
WHAT TO BUY DURING THE NORDSTROM ANNIVERSARY SALE?
I stock up on lots of basics during the sale such as loungewear and PJs, booties, denim and undergarments. In years past I have purchased quite a few items for work, but since I am working from home until who-knows-when, I don’t have a need for those items this year. It is also a great time to buy beauty sets that usually don’t go on sale. I purchase clothes for my daughters and husband during the sale as well. WHAT CAN I DO TO GET READY FOR THE SALE?
As I mentioned above, this year Nordstrom has released a PREVIEW of all of the items included in the sale. You can check that out HERE. When you see an item you like in the preview, you can click “add to wish list”. Then, when the sale goes live you can easily add those items to your cart.
